Tired, that’s me!

Tired. That’s me right now. So, tired in fact that I am doing this Friday Minute Friday (#FMF) post on Saturday because I was simply too tired to do this Friday.

I had to chuckle a little when I saw the word for Five Minute Friday was tired.

I work at a faith based organization and every morning our leadership team starts our morning meeting with a devotional and prayer. Yesterday ( Friday), the devotional was about taking care of ourselves. A few of my coworkers looked at me to which I responded with a laugh….”Stop looking at me!” It is well known that I often do not sleep more than six hours a night.

Everyone knows I am tired. I push myself. I work hard. I don’t rest and relax well.

Last night, I had a quiet house to myself. I couldn’t focus on a movie. My attention span is such that I don’t do well with doing nothing.

Sigh….no wonder I am exhausted.

How fitting the word of the week for #FMF would be tired.

So, I know this but what do I do with this? There is quote that reads something like this…if you do what you’ve always done, you get what you’ve always gotten. No change in behavior means no change in outcome.

This verse comes to mind….

It is useless to get up early
and stay up late
in order to earn a living.
God takes care of his own,
even while they sleep.[a] Psalm 127:2

Maybe I need to take some cueing from my furry friend. He plays hard but rests well.

Anyone else have difficulty resting and relaxing? What helps you?

  1. I used to have difficulty sleeping because I was trying to do everything. I have surrounded my problems to God and give them to him because he cares for me. I rest and let him take care of my problems. Also I started going to bed earlier and meditating on a Scripture verse before falling asleep.

  2. Most of the time I sleep like a baby but sometimes I can’t sleep. It’s all the thoughts, anxiety and my to do list. I get up and get a drink and try to meditate to clear my mind. I hope you can find what works for you and you get that well needed sleep!💗🙏

  3. I share you feelings about rest and relaxation even as I try to learn from our new puppy: she plays hard but when she tires out, it’s like someone turns off a switch and out she goes.
Obviously, I can’t just stop and take a nap (though there are times . . .), so the age old issue of finding balance is the problem/solution. My desire is to please God as I serve Him. If I allow this to be an ego filling activity, I can easily become exhausted as I find more and more things ‘I’ need to do.
The practical advice I have received still is best: take time to nourish the spirit like I do the body. This means I must be disciplined in my prayer/devotional times, using them to deepen my relationship with the Lord as opposed to doing them to put a check in a box.
That can be difficult, but not as much so as learning to listen to my body and the care it requires. I am of little to no use to anyone if I run myself to a frazzle.
As I have already written about once this morning, finding balance is the key. For me that is putting and keeping God first. This allows me to better respond to the urging of the Spirit with regard to the care/time I should be spending with others. Believe me, I am still a work in progress with this!
